As for what follows: One of the most honorable religious sciences is the knowledge of the Prophet’s hadith, and for the sake of knowing it, distinguishing the companions of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, from those who came after them. A group of memorizers have compiled classifications according to what each of them has reached, so the first person I knew to write about that was Abu Abdullah Al-Bukhari.
