Notes
The author summarizes for us the subject of his book in his preface by saying: “This is a commentary in which I collected the events of the time that I have perceived since my birth in the year one hundred and seventy-three, and so on, detailing each year’s deaths of notables, absorbing the narrators of the hadith, especially those I met and authorized by me, and mostly I cite what I saw or learned from those I refer to, or I found in the handwriting of someone I trust among my sheikhs and companions.” He narrates events in the form of annals, mentioning them from the year 773 AH year after year, and after the end of each year’s events he mentions the months of deaths. He is not limited to recording incidents in Egyptian history, but rather goes beyond that to recording what happens in other Islamic nations from Turkestan to Morocco. He mentions what happens in his annals from the history of the Tatars, Khurasan, Persia, the kingdoms of the peninsula, and Asia Minor, and in Morocco the kingdom of Beni Marin, Beni Abd al-Wad in Tlemcen, and Beni al-Ahmar in Andalusia. And the events of Mecca, Medina, and Yemen, then the events of each year are followed by notable deaths from any Islamic nation. This second volume begins with the events of the year 811 AH and continues on its path until the events of the year 850 AH. About two years before the author’s death, the author mentions to us his sources in his preface, first and foremost the history of Sheikh Nasser bin Al-Furat, the writings of Taqi al-Din al-Maqrizi, the Hafiz Sheikh of the Sanctuary Taqi al-Din bin Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Ali al-Fasi, the Maliki judge in Mecca, and al-Hafiz Salah al-Din Khalil bin Muhammad bin al-Aqfahsi, Judge Badr al-Din al-Aini and others. He tells us that his book would do well, in terms of incidents, to be a follow-up to the history of al-Hafiz Imad al-Din bin Katheer, as he finished his history at the end of the Sunnah. Which he started with. There is a written copy of “Anbaa Al-Ghamr” in the Al-Jamaa Al-Azhar Library in two large volumes that were written in Ramadan in the year 879 AH (General No. 10666). This book was mentioned in:
Brockelmann: G II. 76/ S. II (41)74, the Egyptian House of Books 2476- the Vatican Library 731, and the National Library of Paris 1601- 1604 dates.
