The copyist generally wrote them in black ink, and used red ink to write numbers of hadiths, such as “the first hadith, the second...” and to draw warning lines on the text of the annotated hadiths. He copied them: Brockelmann mentioned some of their copies in 1/396 and its appendix 1/683.

This is a nice explanation of the forty hadiths collected by the Imam, the jurist Muhyiddin Abu Zakaria, Yahya bin Sharaf al-Nawawi, the Shafi’i, the ascetic and the pious. The first hadith is about the Commander of the Faithful, Omar bin al-Khattab bin Nufayl bin Abdul-Uzzi al-Qurashi, meeting with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, in Ka’b bin Luay.
