Notes At the beginning of his preamble, Imam al-Suyuti describes to us the subject of his book by saying, “This is a nice history in which I translated the caliphs, the princes of the believers, who were in charge of the nation from the era of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq to our era, in the order of his time, the first to the first, and I mentioned in the translation of each of them the surprising incidents that occurred in his days, and who in his days were among the imams of the religion and the notables of the nation.” Then he mentions to us the reason for his writing in his saying: “A group collected histories in which they mentioned the notables mixed together, but they did not complete them,” and that he thought that singling out each group in a book would bring the benefit closer and achieve completeness, and that is why he wrote a book on the Companions, a book on the classes of interpreters, a third on the classes of preservationists, and a fourth in the classes of grammarians...etc., and that he presented at the beginning of the book chapters that contained important benefits, and as for the strange facts and incidents he mentioned Al-Ajiba, it is a summary of the history of Al-Dhahabi. It reviews the history of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, then the Umayyad Caliphs, then the Abbasid Caliphs until the end of their state. After that, it mentions the Abbasid caliphs in Egypt until the late ninth century AH. The book concludes with a brief summary of the Fatimid caliphs in Egypt, and the Hasani Alawite state of the Banu Tabataba in Kufa and Yemen. This book was mentioned in: Brockelmann: S.I. 248, 278. G.I. 68 - II 157 and the Egyptian House of Books 552 and 5227 History and the Vatican Apostolic Library Bib Vat 9. Vat 281. 743. 746.
