The book is a defense by some of the scholars of Fez of its beauty, virtues, and originality of its scholars, in response to what Ibn al-Muhanna al-Jaza’iri addressed to it in the journey of the scholar Hussein al-Wartalani regarding the hideous attacks, and what the people of Morocco accused of “immorality, sorcery, and stupidity,” and that the operations of the people of Fez were ridiculous because they were based on weak statements, and what the most prominent scholars of Fez accused of ignorance and immorality, and his attacks on the Prophet’s family, and other things. The objectionable matters, and a group of Fez scholars gathered and refuted these allegations, established evidence of their invalidity, and highlighted Fez’s architectural and scientific boasts, and presented, among what I cited, Ibn al-Khatib’s description of Fez in his book “The Criterion of Choice,” where he describes it by saying: “God nurtured countries whose land grows wealth, and whose horizons over the people are an extended shadow. The secrets, the hearth of the fire of oppression, the abode of indigestible glory, the greatest seat of caliphate...etc.
