Al-Dhahabi said about him in “Siyar al-Nubala’” (17/453): “He is the imam, the trustworthy Hafiz, the scholar, Shaykh al-Islam... an honest man who is knowledgeable of this art. I do not know of a sin of his - and God will pardon him - greater than his narration of the hadiths included in his collections, then he is silent about making them weak.” I said: And his example in memorization is many!
