At the end of it, Ibn Kamal Pasha mentions his treatise, which is a commentary on “Al-Muftah,” meaning the key to Al-Sakaki. The text is annotated, in the margins there are side titles in red and transcription differences, and some phrases have red lines on them.

Praise be to his friend, and blessings be upon his Prophet, and after. This is a message that we have arranged in order to investigate the properties and advantages and to explain the difference between them, for those who examine the books of rhetoric have become suspicious to the point that some of those who think well of them have claimed that they are synonymous. So we say: The author of “Al-Muftah” said: Rhetoric is the attainment of the speaker in conveying the meanings to an extent that has the specialty of fulfilling the properties of the structures.
