Notes
خدم المؤلف بالطب الخليفة الناصر (الذي توفي سنة 1225 م) وعمر طويلاً. At the beginning of the manuscript we find questions related to natural matters, the definition of medicine and its parts, and answers to them. After his definition of medicine, as stated at the beginning of the manuscript, he explains the elements, moods, humors, actions, and spirits. وأغلبه نقله من كتب طبية سابقة. ينتهي قسمه الأول في الورقة 84 أ. Then the research continues in folio 117b and ends with the end of the sixth article in folio 175. I found two copies of Intikahab al-Iqtisab in Dr. Haddad’s collection, one of which was in a very beautiful naskh script, and I found a second copy in the Oriental Library in Beirut.
Sample Text
Medicine is a science through which the conditions of the human body are known in terms of what is good and what is bad in order to preserve existing health and recover what is fleeting. It is two parts: knowledge and work. Knowledge has three parts: knowledge of natural matters, through which pathological matters are known when they disappear, knowledge of causes, and knowledge of evidence.
