Notes
Isagogi: A treatise on logic, by Atheer al-Din al-Abhari, who died in the year 662 AH. It serves as an introduction and summary of Aristotle’s logic, in the style of the treatise by Porphyry of Tyre, which he wrote with the same title: Isagogi. See our comment on Isagogi. Thus, the author’s name was mentioned in the manuscript, and we did not find among those nicknamed al-Buhairi anyone whose name was Muhammad ibn Ismail. It seems that he is one of the latecomers.
Sample Text
Praise be to God who has endowed man with all kinds of virtues... Now then: And he says... Al-Buhairi: When Al-Muneim Al-Karim granted me the privilege of studying Isagogi in logic, the explanation of Sheikh Al-Islam... with Al-Hafni’s footnote to that nice explanation, I collected words confirming that footnote, so I said: His saying, may God have mercy on him, “praise be to him” is a noun in the accusative case with an affirmative deleted verb, meaning Ahmad.
