Notes The translator is Hunayn bin Ishaq Al-Abadi, who died in the year 26 AH - 873 AD. Ibn Abi Usaibah mentioned in Uyun Al-Anba’ that he died in the year 264 AH. The book is divided into three articles: In the first, it talks about the doctor and the need to know the conditions of his patients, the nature of diseases, their diagnosis and signs, and the method of treating patients. Then he talks about some diseases, such as acute diseases and tumors, Part 10. As for the second article, he talks about some diseases, their symptoms, and their treatment. The second article begins on page 11 and continues through page 26. In the third article, the author talks about fevers, their types, and their roles, then about diseases of the throat and chest, such as angina. And abscesses. The third article begins on folio 26b and continues on folio 40. The book is the first in the collection. Dr. Sami Hamarneh mentioned three other copies in his index, their general numbers are 11, 188, and 4829. Our copy is older than the copies mentioned in Dr. Hamarneh’s index.
Sample Text In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and in Him is my trust. The first article from the book of the venerable Hippocrates on the Introduction to Knowledge, translated by Hunayn bin Ishaq. Hippocrates said, “I think that one of the best things is for the doctor to use foresight, because if he knows first and comes forward, he warns the patients of what is present in them, what is past, and what will resume, and expresses to the patient whenever he falls short in his description, it is better to be confident that he is able to know the affairs of the patients, so that this invites the patients to trust him and surrender into the hands of the doctor.”
