Notes
It is a study of the life of the devout Sufi Imam Abu Abbas Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Omar bin Asher Al-Andalusi, who died in the year 765 AH and is buried in Salé. The author tells us that he was originally from Shamina in Andalusia, then he moved to Algeciras, where he spent time teaching the Qur’an, then he crossed the sea to Morocco, first landing in Maknasa, then moving to Salé, and staying in the zawiya of Sheikh Abu Zakariya near the Great Mosque. He lived by copying books of hadith, and his devotion and piety became famous among the people. Companions and disciples gathered around him, despite his preference for isolation and interruption. He encouraged asceticism and a desire for the afterlife. He strongly advised to adhere to the rights of God, and he was famous for his abundance of knowledge and his exploration of the law of God. He wrote some books on jurisprudence and Sufism that became widely popular at the time. Then he talks about his news, morals, virtues and dignity, and mentions Sultan Abu Annan’s visit to him in Salé in the year 757 AH, his flight from meeting him, what he wrote to the Sultan and what the Sultan responded to him with, and the nobles he met, then he concludes with a chapter about the visit. Its virtues, etiquette, and some poems for various purposes. This book was mentioned or found in: Brockelmann: S.II. 686.
