Al-Samarqandi wrote a famous treatise on metaphors known as “The Samarkandian Epistle,” which was then explained by Issam al-Din al-Isfarayini. These are footnotes to the explanation and its author is the grandson of Issam al-Din.

And then the poor servant says to the Most Kind Lord of the Worlds, Ali ibn Sadr al-Din ibn Issam al-Din: When I reached the age of discernment from the dear age... and when I mentioned what he mentioned, I was busy studying a serious explanation of the treatise that was being used to investigate the meanings of the metaphors.
