Notes
We say the first. Within a group (folio 137b to folio 151b), with footnotes. The manuscript is without a title, and what we have proven here is the title derived from the text. What is meant by the average is the explanation that Al-Istarabadi wrote on Al-Kafiya fi Al-Nahwah by Ibn Al-Hajib. Al-Istarabadi wrote three commentaries on Al-Kafiya, the major explanation is known as the simple explanation (al-Mabsoot), the small explanation, and the moderate explanation. The title by which Al-Mawtif is famous is: Al-Wafiyah fi Sharh Al-Kafiya. There are many written copies of Al-Wafiyah, its explanations and footnotes, and from all of that, this anonymous author extracted its footnotes (see Al-Mawtawa’s footnotes in: Kashf Al-Dhunoun, pp. 1371-1372).
