Notes - Published by: Mr. Mohsen Al-Amin Al-Amili, in (“Shiite Notables” 30: 50-91), then verified by Dr. Ramadan Abdel Tawab (Ain Shams University Press - Cairo 1969, 51 pages). He indicated in the introduction that it could not have been written by Al-Khalil bin Ahmed. This copy of “Al-Horouf” is an illustrated copy of a handwritten copy - within the aforementioned collection - in the General Endowments Library in Baghdad (No. 9/13716 Collections). See: (“Index of Manuscripts in the Public Endowments Library in Baghdad” 3: 232, series 5172) and see (“Index of Manuscripts by Hasan al-Ankarli...,” pp. 175-176, No. 127/13716/8 Collection). Dr. Ramadan Abdel Tawab noted, on pages 11-12, eight handwritten copies of the “Al-Horouf” message. He pointed to its appearance. - First published in the Annals of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University (No. 11, 1968, pp. 133-181). - In (Alam Al-Kutub magazine 3 [Riyadh: January - February 1983] issue 4, p. 735) among the heritage books published: Three books on letters: by Al-Khalil bin Ahmad, Ibn Al-Sakit, and Al-Razi. Researched and presented by: Dr. Ramadan Abdel Tawab. Cairo: Al-Khanji Library, Riyadh, Dar Al-Rifai, 1402 AH - 1982 AD. 191 p. - The author is Al-Farahidi, named after Farahid: she is a descendant of Al-Azd. He was born in Basra. He took knowledge from Abu Amr bin Al-Ala, and narrated from more than one of the scholars. A group of the greatest scholars of his time received knowledge from Al-Khalil, including: Al-Asma’i, Sibawayh, Al-Nadr bin Shumail, Abu Faid Muraj Al-Sadousi, and others. Al-Khalil was the first to extract the propositions, and no one of all the scholars preceded him in his knowledge. He also deduced from the science of grammar what had not been done before. He restricted the science of linguistics to the letters of the dictionary in his book “Al-Ayn”. He has knowledge of rhythm, tone and music. He has many books about it. He used to recite poetry. His poems were scattered in books on language, literature, and history. It has many classifications in: language, grammar, prosody, and melody. Most of it was lost. Its translation is complete in the book “Al-Khalil bin Ahmed Al-Farahidi: His Life and Effects in Arab and Foreign References.” - He died in Basra. There was disagreement about the year of his death, and it was said: the year 160 AH, 170, 175, and 180, and it was said otherwise. Perhaps the most likely statement is that his death was in the year 175 AH (= 791 AD).
Sample Text Basmala..., benefit: Sheikh Imam Al-Khalil bin Ahmed Al-Nahwi Al-Lughuqi said that all the letters have been combined with their meanings that were mentioned among the Arabs. I composed it according to what I had access to. I ask God for success in all matters
