He said... Muhyi al-Din Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ali bin Muhammad al-Arabi al-Ta’i al-Hatimi al-Andalusi... Praise be to God for what he inspired, and for teaching us what we did not know... As for what follows: I sought the help of God Almighty on the night of Monday the second, the twentieth of Jumada al-Awwal, in the year five hundred and ninety-nine, at the home of the Mayyah family in Taif for our visit. Abdullah bin Al-Abbas, cousin of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. The reason for my seeking Istikhara was to ask my companions, Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Badr Abdullah Al-Habashi, Atiq Abi Al-Ghanaim bin Abi Al-Futuh Al-Harrani, may God have mercy on him, and Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Khalid Al-Sadafi Al-Tilmisani, may God grant them success, that I should limit for them in these days, the days of visitation, what they would benefit from on the path to the afterlife, so I asked God Almighty for that, and I bound for them this booklet, which I labeled “Trinket.” “Al-Abdāl and the knowledge and conditions that appear to them.”
