Notes
Ottoman Turkish translation of a French work on astronomy, possibly the work Tables astronomiques du soleil, de la lune, des planetes, des étoiles fixes et des satellites de Jupiter et de Saturne (Paris 1740) by Jacques Cassini, son of the famous French astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712). The Turkish title of the work is mentioned on f. 3a. The tables (cedvel) have the sizes 17,0 x 8,8; 16,5 x 9,4; 15,0 x 7,7 cm; very few marginalia concerning the mathematical operations needed for converting dates from the Muslim into the Christian era. Undated, but the introduction mentions Sultan Muṣṭafā III (1757-1774). On f. 129a there is a note of unclear purpose by “Ismā'īl known as Khalīfezāde”, dated 1183 (1769). The work itself (ff. lb-124a) consists of an introduction.
