Notes
Haji Khalifa mentioned to Ahmed bin Abd al-Jalil al-Sijzi a treatise on the astrolabe, but he did not mention that it was in the zauqi type. It is cataloged in Sulaymaniyah under the title: “Al-Risala Al-Zawarqiyya” attributed to him. This letter is an annotated copy, with some corrections in its margins.
Sample Text
Endless praise and infinite praise... It is not hidden that the astrolabe, in spite of the perfection of tenderness and the utmost subtlety, is the most honorable instrument for astronomical observation and measurement. The astrolabe is a boat that, based on the guesswork and intelligence of its inventor, Abu Saeed Sejzi - may God have mercy on him - it is a clear proof and proof that this strange shape and strange style is recommended according to the religion of that tribe that moves.
