The author is the doctor of the caliphs of Banu Abbas, Harun al-Rashid and al-Mamun to al-Wathiq. He learned medicine in Baghdad from Jibril ibn Bakhtishu (Brockelman 4-264). Ibn Abi Usaibah mentioned more than forty books on medicine and medicine by him (Uyun al-Anbaa 1-183). He died in Samarra.
