Abbas told us, Abu Al-Yaman told us, Shuaib told us on the authority of Al-Zuhri, he said, Ubayd Allah ibn Abdullah told me, that Abdullah ibn Abbas told him that Saad ibn Ubadah Al-Ansari asked the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, a fatwa regarding a vow he had made to his mother, and she died before she could fulfill it, so he gave him a fatwa to fulfill it on her behalf, so it was still a Sunnah. Adam told us, Shu’bah told us, on the authority of Abu Bishr, he said, I heard Saeed ibn Jubayr on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both. A man of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, came and said to him: My sister had vowed to perform Hajj even though she had died, so the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “If she had a debt, would you pay it off?” He said: Yes. He said: “So pay it off... for he has more right to pay it off.”
