Notes
The book begins with a translation of the Caliph al-Nasir li-Din Allah, Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn al-Mustadhi, then follows it with the biographies of those who died during his caliphate. This was the case with the caliphs who came after him and the last of them who received the Caliph al-Musta’sim Billah. Father Anastas Marie the Carmelite wrote at the beginning of this copy that he received a letter from Paris from Professor Mustafa Jawad about this book, telling him that he had not identified the author of this book. Professor Korkis Awad mentioned when he spoke about this copy after reviewing the history of the notable states preserved at the time by the lawyer Abbas Al-Azzawi, and he said the following: (By comparing the two books one with the other, it becomes clear that Man of the Notables is a piece of the history of the notable states, and this piece falls within the fourth and fifth volumes of this book). We compared this piece with a copy of the book The History of the Notables States mentioned, which was preserved in the manuscripts section, and it became clear to us that the correspondence referred to by Professor Korkis did not occur and that Man of the Eyes is a different book than the book The History of the Notables States; A photostat copy of the copy of the Timurid Treasury at Dar al-Kutub al-Misriyah, written by Abdullah al-Mansouri in the year 1295 AH/1878 AD. At the beginning of it is an index of the names of the men mentioned in the book, arranged according to the name, nickname, or nickname by which they are known.
