Notes Scanning from an original document. This man is part of the collection of Pierre de Brueys (we read “n°71” at the 1st guard); he has at the same guard a Persian notice of the hand of Qanbar 'Alī, accompanied by his stamp dated 1201H., where he indicates that he has made two sheets again. Scanning from an original document. Cf. Persian 232.Incipit f. 2v, cf. Persian 232.Explicit f. 168, cf. Persian 232. Copy completed (f. 168) at an unspecified date by Muhammad Qavvām al-Kātib al-Šīrāzī [compare Persian 274 and Persian Supplement 601, etc. ; it is Muḥ. Qavvām b. Muḥ. Šīrāzī Ḥammāmī, calligrapher of Šīrāz active between 940H./1535 and 978H./1573]. The f. 166-167v – which had disappeared – were remade at the end of the 18th century [in Surat] by Qanbar ‛Alī, the secretary of P. de Brueys. The manuscript currently contains 9 paintings [which can be attributed to a Šīrāz workshop and date from around 1560] (compare with E. Blochet, Revue des Bibliothèques, 1898, p. 328-9; 1789. Le Patrimoine Libération, Paris, 1989, no. 58). It would also seem that another painting, on a full page, has disappeared between f. 75v and 76 where there is a gap of one leaf. We find:1).- F. 1v (90 x 144 mm) “Timur presides over a festival in the presence of the greats of his empire”.2).- F. 2 (88 x 144) “Presents are brought to Timur, including two bows” [this painting is, like the previous one, surrounded by a frame where a six-pointed star is repeated imitating a ceramic decoration].3).- F. 19v (100 x 170) “In a sumptuous tent, the amīr Taraġāï, governor of Kiš in Transoxiana and father of Timur, receives one of the other princes of Central Asia. 1386, Timur embarked on the Araxes and headed, by boat, towards Georgia to attack it”.6).- F. 84 (115 x 133) “In 1393, near Šīrāz, a battle pitted Timur against Manṣūr Šāh, mużaffarid sultan of Fārs”.7).- F. 119v (110 x 146) “On the way to India, Timur and his army confront, in the mountains of Katūr, the dīv who are ravaging this region.”8).- F. 148 (112 x 138) “Timur and his troops confront the Syrian army of the governor of Aleppo in 1400 and they are victorious.”9).- F. 160v (100 x 170) “After the victory of Ankara of 1402, Timur holds audience in the presence of the vanquished, Sultan Bāyazīd.” This ms. was part of the collection of Pierre de Brueys (we read “n° 71” on the 1st endpaper); he has in the same hilt a Persian notice in the hand of Qanbar ‛Alī, accompanied by his stamp dated 1201H., where he indicates that he remade two sheets.
