Notes
Ms., A wooden tablet originally used by students when learning to write in the Arabic script. One side contains 28 lines of text from the Qur'an (Surah lix, verses 11-19), the other has 5 lines of text within an elaborately geometric border. The writing and form of decoration are typical of North West Africa., In its original use, the tablet would have been written on in some medium that could then be easily erased. When this function ceased someone wrote Qur’anic texts in Arabic in the local style of script (known as Sudani) on the board in indelible ink, perhaps to make it more saleable to locals who could then hanged it in a private or public setting as a talisman, or to visitors, as a type of art for tourists., Produced in North West Africa., Text written in brown ink in a form of maghribi script., Ms., Cited in: Duncan Haldane.
