The biography of the author, who was employed in the offices of the caliphate in Baghdad during the first half of the 12th century, and who died in 562 A.H. (1167 A.D.), is found in the Dictionary of Ibn Khallikân, vol. III, p. 90 of the English translation. The present volume, the eleventh of the work, contains four chapters (باب), each of which is preceded by a preface and forms a separate treatise, namely: chapter XLII. Skills and deceptions; — chapter XLIII. Epithets, insinuations, enigmas, logographs and diverted allusions; — chapter XLIV. Wine and debauched parties; — chapter XLV.
