Each tradition is preceded by an isnâd, often very long. The work consists of eight chapters: 1° on the merits of horses used in holy war; 2° on the defense relating to the castration and mutilation of horses; 3° on the choice of horses for holy war (ارتباط) and on the color that should be preferred; 4° that one must be wary of bad omen marks in horses and of شكال, a term which means a horse in which one of the front feet and the opposite hind foot are white; 5° on the prohibition of competing for prizes, except with horses or camels, or in arrow shooting (لا سبق الّا فى خفّ او حافر او نصل); 6° on the portion of the spoils which belongs to the rider; 7° on the exemption from tax enjoyed by Muslim horses; 8° on the particular names of the mounts which belonged to Mohammed.
