Cairo during the Second World War. Hasan is a poor jobless man who meets Lubah and they fall in love. When he found a job they got married. By then Lubah had become a movie star and her parents pushed her to divorce Hasan and marry a rich Lebanese man. When German forces advanced to El Alamein in Western Egypt, Hasan employer decided to move to South Africa and give up the store to Hasan.
