Notes
Contemporary case. With cotton yarn, the contemporary case is made of light brown
leather sewn together; but it is outside as a result of the influence of water, which also happens
left its mark on the Koran scroll, heavily darkened. For embroidery
Different colored silk yarns were chosen for the decorative motif and the hem edging. — The surah names are written in red ink. The text is written so small
that you can't read it with the naked eye. That means the Koran scroll probably has
more of an amulet character. — Complete Quran. With the help of stencils, the calligrapher has on the middle field
various decorative patterns and 34 word fields left out as blank spaces in the text.
Read in context, these blind word fields pay homage to the prophet,
his daughter Fatima and the twelve Shiite Imams. These will be in order
listed, starting with the fourth Caliph Ali, through his sons Hassan and Hussein
up to the "expected" 12th Imam, the Mahdi, who according to Shiite teaching did not die,
but has only "disappeared" and will one day return as end-time ruler and redeemer
will. The Amulet Koran therefore has a specifically Shiite note, which reflects its origin
in Iran or in the region around the city of Lucknow, a Shiite center
lets.
