Associated with the city of Fez (Morocco), Mahlema Brika is a Moroccan singer. - This disc was the subject of a reissue during the 1920s, present within the collection of Arabic and oriental music (available at reference AP-3191). - Side A: contains a comic scene featuring two main characters. Colloquial language register. Scene appearing to have as its theme the mausoleum of [Sīdī bal-ʿAbās] in Marrakech. From 1'48", a sung part punctuated by percussion, and beginning with what seems to be the cries of a newborn, concludes the scene. - Side B: contains a comic scene featuring two main characters (woman complaining about her husband's behavior to a sort of muftî; colloquial language register). |
