Notes
The biography prepared by Ali Muzaffer Bey. The work dealing with the life and heroism of Abdülezel Pasha was written in 1897 and presented with the statement "It provides information about the deceased's state of affairs". In the first 9 pages of his 15-page work, Ali Muzaffer Bey conveyed his thoughts about the Pasha, then added the text "Sûret-i Speech", which he stated belonged to the Pasha, and finally Recaizade Mahmut He included the "Poem" written by Ekrem for Abdülezel Pasha in his book. At the beginning of his work, the author states that Abdülezel Pasha's heroism left not only the Ottomans but the whole world grateful. He states that many works have been written about attack abilities and successes, but the treatises created do not contain the desired information. Abdülezel Pasha's achievements also influenced Europeans. The Daily News newspaper described him as the 80-year-old hero of the Battle of Milona. While Asâkir-i Mansûre-i Pâdişâhî attacked the Milona Strait, he did not hesitate to be the first target of the bullets and advanced in front of the soldiers. When his aides challenged him, he said, "Will I dismount in the Greek Battle when I did not dismount for a moment even in the Russian Battle?" He showed his courage by saying (Ali Muzaffer, 1897: 4). But in the meantime, 2 bullets pierced his left arm and right hand. Even though he was wounded, he continued to encourage the army without compromising his fortitude and command. Abdülezel Pasha showed that he would be a hero from an early age. He joined the military in Akka in 1258/1842. Even though he was raised in a regiment, this is related to the conditions of his time. He fulfilled his duty in the Ceziratü'l-Arab region until 1270/1853 and won the love of his superiors with his behavior. In the same year, he participated in the Crimean War with Hüsrev Pasha and was appointed aide-de-camp due to the admiration his brave actions aroused in the Pasha. He participated in the Battles of Montenegro in 1274/1857 and Crete in 1285/1868. As a result of his success in these battles, he was rewarded with various decorations and Crimea-Montenegro-Crete medals. After serving in Giresun with the rank of major in 1289/1872, he participated in the Serbian War. His efforts in the Battles of Aleksinaç and Pleven were praised. The famous bastion, where he built a trench for defense, was engraved in the history of the Pleven war with the title of "Hafız Bey Bastion" and he was promoted to the rank of Miralay. When Abdülezel Pasha, who gained the appreciation and compliment of Gazi Osman Pasha, returned to Istanbul after the war, he was personally appointed by Sultan II. He was rewarded with the Plevne heroism medal by Abdulhamid. Abdülezel Pasha returned to Dersaadet after performing important works in the Hejaz Gendarmerie Organization and received the rank of Brigadier General as a reward for his services. While he was serving in Karahisar-ı Şarki in his last years, he was sent to Alasonya due to the war and after completing his service, he was martyred in the Battle of Pırnartepe on April 5. It is not easy to describe the respectable position that the deceased Hafiz gained in the eyes of the Ottomans. The day of Pasha's martyrdom is one of the saddest days of the Ottomans. Every individual who has a heart under their chest has shed tears. Pasha, who fought in battle 26 times, served his state faithfully and risked his life to protect the homeland. For this reason, he is one of the heroes of Ottoman history who deserve to be remembered with the highest respect.
