Notes Seyyid Mehmed b., known as Allâme Şeyhî, was one of the scholars and poets of the 17th century and served as a nakibüsrapraf for a while. It is an Arabic ode in the shitaiyye genre, written by Seyyid Mahmud during his time as judge of Jerusalem. The existence of this work, which is recorded as Seciyye in some sources, most likely as a result of a material error (Yüksel and Köksal 1998: 76; Kesik 2020), is mentioned by Nefhatü'r-Reyhâneye writer Muhibbî, and while quoting six couplets from the ode, he states that the ode is read every night in the Masjid al-Aqsa (1967: III/111-112). Ahmed Rif'at states in Devhatü'n-Nukabâ that the poet donated some money on the condition that this eulogy be read in the Masjid al-Aqsa every night, and that the requirements of this foundation were fulfilled until his time (Yüksel and Köksal 1998: 76). The Selciyye eulogy, derived from the word "selc" meaning snow, was written by the poet in Muharram 1032. It is an ode he wrote while he was serving as the judge of Jerusalem between (November-December 1622) and Rabiyulâhır 1033 (January-February 1624). (For detailed information, see Author 2012) and it is basically a poem in which the snowfall in Jerusalem is described with poetic dreams. This subject was also the subject of a 24-couplet Turkish ode in Allâme Şeyhî Efendi's Turkish Divan (for the ode, see Öztürk 2019). Although a separate copy of the ode was not found as a result of the searches, it is highly likely that a copy or copies of this very famous ode can be found among magazines.
