Notes	It is the notebook that Mehmed Şerîf Efendi kept while he was working as a nakîbüleşrâf. One of the duties of the nakibulesrafs, who were responsible for handling the affairs of the sayyids and sheriffs in the Ottoman state, was to record the political documents of the sayyids and sheriffs of their period. Mehmed Şerîf's notebook also contains the records he kept during his duty as nakibüleşraf between 1625-1630. Mehmed Şerîf gives information about his lineage in Arabic between pages 54b-56a of this notebook, which is recorded at number 11 in the Istanbul Mufti's Meşîhat archive (see Işık 2014: 239). Apart from this part, which can also be read as a kind of life story, the notebooks contain the political proofs recorded by Mehmed Şerîf. While Mehmed Şerîf's records here generally provide important biographical data, they are also among the basic sources in creating a family history, as they record many names from his own family.
