Notes A square panel of tapestry woven wool, with selvedge on either side. Egyptian, ca. AD300-500. The central, circular motif is of a blue duck (with cream shaded wings) surrounded by flowers on a white background. This is surrounded by a frame of dark red wool with white and yellow circles in each corner. The is surrounded by a band of floral motifs on a yellow background. This band has circles in each corner and one central circle on each side (8 in all) that contain a central green cross with heart shaped petals (pink and cream) coming out from the centre of the cross. This is on a red, circular background. Alternating between each cirlce is a flower with green leaves and white, pink and purple petals. This band is surrounded by another band of dark red that ends at the selvedge. Above and below the panel is a small strip of white wool. The warp is of undyed, s-spun wool. Approax. 14x62 tpc.
