Iznik patterns often combine Islamic and Chinese elements. The arabesques on this dish are Islamic, while the background has a wave scroll inspired by Chinese models, and the rim has a version of the Chinese rock and wave design.

Plate with shallow rim, decorated with prominent vegetal motifs highlighted with blue and green atop a background of tightly wound black spirals. The decoration in the rim is an abstract version of the wave-and-rock motif.
