Notes Textile fragment of embroidered wool on woven wool. Egyptian, ca.300-600. The fragment is cut in a circle around a squared decoration containing floral patterns on an undyed background. The square is broken at the centre of each side there is a white diamond; the corners contain white flowers of 8 petals; in the centre there is a circle with a white bird. A small amount of mustard yellow wool is also found on the reverse of the bird and a black? thread is also present. 123mm in diameter; approx. 10x20 tpc (sys 1; sys 2); purple thread dia. approx. 0.6mm; undyed wool is s spun, purple/black wool is z spun.
