Notes
A fragment of woven silk. Probably Byzantine, ca. AD1200-1400. Paired warps are of differing colours (dark blue, green) and some are bound. The weft is dark blue/purple. In some section the weft is missing. The pattern that remains shows diamonds across the fabric, created with a border of a solid central line with a thinner line on either side. Within the diamond is a connected floral, vine pattern with a central X (cross) surrounded by a deep, wavy line. Poor condition.
