Notes
A fragment panel of tapestry-woven wool. Egyptian, ca. AD700-900. Colours include dark blue, red and white. The central design has three animals (perhaps a rabbit and a bird) above each other on a red background. Only the central figure is complete. There is a partial border remaining which includes a row of connecting short crosses. The crosses are white with a central dark blue cross. Towards the edge (where a small amount of selvedge remains) is a thick, red, geometric stripe and a thick, blue stripe. The warp is of double threads, tightly twisted around each other, so that a ribbed impression is made across the whole piece. The piece is very fragmented.
