Plain weave cotton, probably hand woven, embroidered with silk in straight stitches, needleweaving and pulled thread work; whitework The central area is filled with a large octagon with 4 pendant hexagons from alternate sides; all these shapes are delineated with pulled thread in a net form and edged with two rows of needleweaving [a]. the 4 pointed corner units are patterned with needleweaving into small squares framing a tiny lozenge, and edged with [a], a narrow zigzag of straight stitches, a repeat of [a] and finished with a row of reciprocal trefoils. The remaining ground is patterned with occasional 8-pointed flowerheads and 8 tristemmed plants [or could these be candle holders?] in pulled thread work.
