Fragment of carpet border of woven wool. WARP: white wool; Z2S; 16 threads per inch (62 per dm). WEFT: red wool (lower 84 cms.), white wool (upper 53 cms); both Z2S; number of shoots after each row of knots varies from 3-7 and there are some corrective wefts; average number of knots per inch 6 (24 per dm). PILE: wool; 4 colours: red, green with marked abrash, dark brown, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 48 knots per sq. inch (787 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: left hand side: missing right hand side: 3 cords overcast with red wool for first 84 cms. and then interespersed with return white/cream weft, 3 wefts at a time. Red weft threads similarly returned in lower part. END FINISH: missing DESIGN: inner border: solid dark brown. Main border: reciprocal green/red trefoil. Outer border: white/red checks.
