Notes
The oldest Ottoman embroideries in the V&A date from the 16th and 17th centuries. They are either whole covers and wall hangings or fragments of them. They are decorated with large-scale, bold designs in red, blue, green and yellow, with some white and black. The oldest patterns, such as this one, are made from intersecting lines or lattice which enclose spaces filled with flowers.

Fiziksel açıklama
Left hand panel from a hanging, linen embroidered with silk in surface darning on the diagonal over three threads and running stitch (borders). The field contains one complete and one partial (cut off by the border) vertical meandering stem which is outlined in blue and given a scale-like appearance by the red segments it contains. These stems curve towards each other, not quite meeting but forming a series of large, offset oval compartments. The almost complete row contains a segmented arrangements of flowers and leaves including pomegranates and tulips. The predominant colour is red with blue, white and some green. The incomplete row to the right contains a slightly different arrnagement with a more solid central unit and blue serrated leaves. The border contains a floral meander with a thick stem outlined in blue and containing a thin red 'chain'. Sections of stem alternate with a red pomegranate containing, in reserve, a small sprig of three flowers - two tulips and one pomegrante alternating with one tulip and two pomegrantes. Two flowers spring from the sections of meander: a red/white tulip and another flower alternate with a blue leaf and a sprig of two white.pink flowers.
