Notes A band of tapestry woven silk on an undyed linen warp. Egyptian, ca. AD900-1100. The linen is fine with a thread diameter of approx. 0.5mm and s-spun. The colours are brown, green, light blue, dark blue and black on a cream/buff background. The pattern shows a band of design bordered on either side with a line (approx. 10 mm wide) of oval like shapes connected to each other. The shapes are coloured in blue, green, cream or green and are bordered in brown or black. On either side of this line the cream silk is woven into a pattern to create a line to stand out from the rest of the tabby weave. This pattern also circles the large icons in the main band of design. The large icons include a vase of flowers or four ducks in a circle around geometric shapes and with floral shapes between them. In between the large icons are images of doves? and other vase like icons. The piece has holes and is a little stained.
