Notes
Some pieces of Ottoman embroidery made between 1500 and the 1720s have survived. They are whole covers, or fragments of covers. They are decorated with large-scale, bold designs in red, blue, green and yellow, with small amounts of black and white.

Part of a cover, linen embroidered with silk in double running in steps and in diagonal lines and double running in a line (outlines). The main motif in the crowded pattern which covers theground is formed by a paired of inward-curving stems joined at the bottom by a pair of red leaves. These stems enclose a pointed red blossom surrounded by white and then by blue petals and from wither side of each stem grow round red and white flowers alternating with more pointed red and blue flowers.
