Notes
Small kite-shaped tile, fritware, decorated in the overglaze technique known as lajvardina (from 'lajvard', the Persian for 'lapis lazuli'), in which the background is a deep cobalt blue. It is decorated with a single stem with leaves branching off it and a round flower at the centre. This was originally decorated in gold leaf, which is now mostly lost. The outlines are in red, and the blue background is covered in small dots and leaves in a white pigment. Made in Iran, probably Kashan, early 14th century.
