Notes
A silk lampas, compound weave. Possibly Syria or Persia, ca. AD1200-1400. The piece has three bands of decoration in buff and brown with some light blue. The central band has leopards hunting deer and trees in the background. Some of the leaves are in light blue. On either side of this band are four thin, brown lines and a thick fifth line. There is a gap of approx. 22mm before the next band on either side.The central decoration is a tall Islamic script bordered on either side with four thin, brown lines and a thick fifth line. The piece is stained and has holes. One side is selvedge.
