Notes
Two roundels of woven silk. Egyptian ca. AD500-700. Probably from the same tunic as 818-1903. The decoration at the top is of two squat birds looking inwards, over their shoulders at a central floral icon. The bottom half is of two larger birds (storks?) looking outwards. Between them is a tree. All on a red background. Other colours are white, blue, green and yellow. Compound twill on a yellow/orange warp. The birds are surrounded by two borders of floral icons. The inner border is red, white, yellow and blue on a blue background. The outer border is of white icons on a red background. Both roundels have been attached to a backing of undyed, compound weaved linen. The linen and roundels are stained. Both 819 and 819A have a tear across the centre and have holes.
