Description: Plain weave cotton embroidered with silk in straight and chain stitches, backed with plain weave roller-printed cotton and faced with plain weave cotton. The field of unbleached cotton is embroidered with green, pink and salmon-coloured silks with uncrowded rows of floral sprays and sprigs. The sprays have a pair of green leaves at the base and a right-bending stem with three flowers/buds; the sprigs are upright with one flower above a pair of leaves. There is a lobed niche bordered by a fine meander with pointed buds. The focal point of the niche is a green palmette containing a spray of three stems. The spandrels contain scrolling stem and bolder, more detailed flowers [including a carnation and an iris] in blue, yellow, light blue, pink and beige. The outer border of a large meander with two types of blossom. Backing: pieced; printed with diagonal rows of minute stylised botehs in red. Facing: bias cut turquoise blue cotton.
