Women's robes (chyrpy) like this were made for Turkmen women of the Tekke tribe. They were worn over the head so that they hung down over the back and shoulders. The sleeves were purely decorative.

Woman's robe of off-white cotton embroidered in silk thread in various colours. Vestigial sleeves hang down the back of the robe, which is worn as a hood or cape over the top of the head.
