Notes
Silk woven lampas. Compound weave. Possibly Byzantine or Near East ca. AD1000-1300. The background weft is of gold, silk thread creating a netting effect. The design laid on top is of cream/gold griffins/winged horses and floral designs on a green background. The piece appears to be an unfolded hem as there are stitch holes running along parallel to each other along one side. It is stained and with holes. Possibly from a furnishing. Very similar to T.139:1-1935.
