Notes
A piece of woven silk / lampas in compound weave. Byzantine or Persian, ca. AD900-1300. The background is olive green with a design in blue and red. Roundels (approx 75mm wide) are across the fabric. Each encircle two beasts (lions?). The lions are back to back but with heads turned towards each other. Their claws are in red. There are some holes in the piece. The top edge has two lines of stitching holes across it.
