Notes In the 19th century non-Islamic minorities existed in large numbers in the Syrian region. They often dressed in a similar manner to their Moslem neighbours, but details of their jewellery might reveal their faith. This cross was probably made for an Orthodox Christian of the Greek or Armenian Church. Details such as the pendant discs and the red and green pastes are similar to those found on Moslem jewellery from the same area.
