WEFT: light brown and brown wool; Z-spun, unplied; 2 parallel threads in a shoot and 2 shoots after every row of knots; 5-7 knots per inch (21-25 per dm). PILE: wool; 8 colours: red, light red, light orange, light green, blue, light purple, dark brown, white; asymmetrical knot open to the left and tied around 2 warps; 25-35 knots per sq. inch (420-500 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: one cord oversewn by purple wool changing to brown after the first 31 cms. END FINISH: Lower: max. 31 cms. in 10 bands of plain weave - dark brown/dark purple/green/dark purple/red/dark purple/red/dark brown/dark purple/green. Upper: 22 cms. in 8 bands - dark brown/dark purple/green/dark purple/dark brown/red/dark brown/dark purple; loose warp threads 5 cms. long. Colours are listed from pile to fringe. DESIGN: Field: brown ground with one central row of three hooked and horned lozenges with half lozenges in two, outer rows. Within each full lozenge there is a chequered diamond framed by two concentric stepped lozenges. Main border: ground colour, very angular meander with stylised leaves and flowers. Inner and outer borders: red ground with bracketed floral diamonds. Innermost border: purple and white reciprocal V-edged with dark brown. Catalogue date: 1.12.97
