A fragment of a dress fabric with silk and metal threads, Iran, 19th century

Dress fabric, woven silk and metal thread. Displayed behind glass. Warp: pink silk Weft: white, black, orange, blue, green silk; silver-gilt metal strip S-wound on a yellow silk core. Selvedge: 2 cotton cords. Small repeating pattern in bands linked by very fine black stems which form a series of offset vertical lozenges. The ground appears to be gold metal thread. There are three bands: [1] an 8-petalled rosette in pink and blue, next to a small pink rosette with blue centre and 4 serrated white leaves which is enclosed within a lozenge, next to a more pointed version of the first rosette which appears to be set within a circle of white leaves. [2] a small pink and blue rosette with 4 leaves inside a lozenge; a large pink rosette with blue centre and with tiny leaves springing from it, seemingly set within a circle of white leaves; a small blue rosette with pink centre and 4 leaves inside a lozenge. [3] a large blue star-like flower with pink centre, seemingly inside circle of leaves; small pink and blue star flower and 4 leaves inside lozenge; large pink rosette with blue centre inside circle of leaves.
